| Noelle McAloon

Enniskillen has been awarded the prestigious Purple Flag status for an 8th year in recognition for providing safe and welcoming places with mix of venues and attractions for visitors and local residents alike. As awarded Purple Flag town, Enniskillen boasts enjoyable night out and is becoming a popular destination due to its events programme and things to do ranging from live music and festivals to art exhibitions.

Enniskillen is just one of five towns and cities in Northern Ireland with this quality standard. The success of this award has been achieved by a number of local agencies and organisations including the PSNI, Fermanagh and Omagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), Enniskillen BID and representatives from the business, community and voluntary sector working together to enhance and promote the town’s evening economy and to attract a greater number of people to visit Ireland’s only island town to experience everything it has to offer.

Speaking about the renewal of the Purple Flag status for Enniskillen, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Howard Thornton said:

“We are delighted that Enniskillen has been awarded the prestigious Purple Flag once again. Enniskillen town centre has so much to offer with a growing number of restaurants, cafes, events and activities attracting visitors of all ages.”

There will be numerous events taking place in Enniskillen in the months ahead that will help to further enhance the island town’s evening appeal. Those events include the three-day Shoreline Music Festival in August and Festival Lough Erne in September, both of which take place at Enniskillen Castle as well as Cancer Connect NI’s Winter Wonderland at the Buttermarket, Enniskillen.
