There was a late Christmas present for Enniskillen BID when it was revealed that the Enniskillen Gift Card was the top selling gift card in the UK in December, beating cities such as Belfast, Glasgow and Cardiff on its way to the top.

The Enniskillen Gift Card is one of 41 similar Gift Cards in the UK and it can be used in over 120 shops in the county town.

In December there was a whopping £43,225 in Gift Card sales and over the course of the year £136,000 was racked up.

Noelle McAloon, Enniskillen BID Manager, was understandably over the moon with the news:

“It is fantastic. To be at the top for the month of December is just great news. It is the most competitive month of the year with people buying for Christmas so to be the biggest selling Gift Card is incredible and to sell almost £140,000 in the year is brilliant and shows the faith that the public have in the Gift Card and of course also shows the tremendous variety and quality of shops and businesses where it can be spent.” she said.

Since it was first launched Gift Card sales have risen year on year and Noelle explained that there has been great buy in from the business community.

“We are delighted that so many businesses have supported the Enniskillen Gift Card and there are more joining every month. And of course, the public have really rowed in behind it as well which is fantastic to see. It is so important to support local business and every time you buy a Gift Card you are making sure that that money stays within the local economy, which is great for jobs and the area as a whole.”

Noelle revealed that Gift Card sales are not just confined to Enniskillen and the Fermanagh area with many sales coming from across the Island, the UK, with some purchases coming from as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

“Enniskillen is a fantastic place to visit and we wanted to target the tourism market and we put a big emphasis on that this year with our market. People are buying the Gift Card either for their own visit to Enniskillen or for a loved one who is coming to the town. We want to shout from the rooftops how good Enniskillen and thankfully that message is being heard far and wide” the Enniskillen BID manager stated.

Noelle and Enniskillen BID are not going to rest on their laurels however, and plans are already in place to make 2020 another bumper year for Gift Card sales.

“It has been a fantastic initiative so far, but we want to continue to grow and we want to continue to ensure that we show just how fantastic Enniskillen is and how great its businesses are.”
